GOBI AND KARAKORUM TOUR 7 NIGHTS 8 DAYS

Day 1 TsagaanSuvraga

On this day, our journey will set to  TsagaanSuvarga / White stupa where in the middle of Dundgobi province /southern Mongolia/. The feature of this area is a rocky formations eroded by the wind and look like a ruined city.   It is a sheer slope that was an ancient seabed that featured a sedimentary structure that was created over millions of years. It is amazing to think landscape has been changed sea to desert for million years and, still has the features of the sea. One of the best activities tourists usually appreciate is the gaze upon the setting sun in the gobi. You will overstay in the ger close from the attraction.

Distance: 450 km (276 mi) /paved road/

Activities: Hiking, climbing and chill in sunset

Day 2 Yoliin am (Gorge)

In the morning, our team will set our journey to Dalanzadgad city which is the capital of Southern Mongolia for the break and lunch. You can experience shops and markets. After passing the city, we will drive to Yol Valley which is a chance to hike in narrow cliffs with a height of 2500 meters (8202,10 feet).

Although the sun shines a lot in this region, the canyon remains dark, so that at the bottom, a part of the river remains nearly all year long covered by a thick layer of ice. Overnight stay in ger camp.

Day 3 Khongor Sand dune

In the morning, our team will set our journey to Khongor dunes where you will travel south Mongolia. The dunes are 27 km at its widest covering 965 square km in total reaching 200 meters (650 feet) in height and length is about 180 km.

 Once you get there, we will visit a gobi nomad family and take a break after that we’ll ride a camel for about an hour around dunes and oases. In the evening we will climb to the top of the dunes, it will be physically exhausting but the reward will be marvelous. You will briefly climb to the highest point and you can enjoy one of the most beautiful sunsets from the top of the dunes. 

At night stargazing is a very famous activity here because there will be 2500-3000 visible stars and the Milky Way will be very bright. You will stay with the nomad family for which we have a contract.

Day 4 Bayanzag (Flaming Cliffs)

Travel to Bayanzag, more commonly known as the legendary “Flaming Cliffs”. Through the journey we will see arid steppe landscape with many camel herds and herding families. Bayanzag is a red rock creation, formed 60-70 million years ago, made famous by an American explorer Roy Chapman Andrews’s discovery there of complete dinosaur skeletons and eggs in 1920s. Overnight in a ger camp.

Day 5 Ongi Monastery

After the Flaming cliffs you will head to the Ongi monastery (also referred as Ongi Monastery ruins) is a active small monastery with a temple which was built on the ruins of a monastery complex that was formerly one of the largest monasteries in Mongolia, found in 1760 and consisted of two separate monastery complex. 

During recession time of the Mongolia in 1940s almost 90% of the monasteries has been destroyed. Even so, you can experience the ruins of the monastery and beautiful nature. The remaining 1 temple and small ger museum still hold the candles of the our history.

Day 6 Karakorum – The Ancient city

RUINS OF 12TH CENTURY CAPITAL CITY KARAKORUM
Travel to Karakorum, the former capital city of world’s greatest land empire, established by Chinggis Khan. Here we will tour the oldest Buddhist Monastery Erdenezuu, religious complex spanning over 400 sq. meters surrounded by 108 stupas. It was first built on the ruins of Karakorum in 1586 by AbtaiSain Khan. The site has some of the best works of religious art and architecture in Mongolia. Visit Karakorum museum. Overnight in a ger camp. During this day, you may visit the ancient monasteries and the Karakorum Museum.

Day 7 Hustain National Park

On this day of our tour, we will be on a journey to Hustain National Park, which is one of the places where wild horses (Przewalski horses) are . Besides that you will see deer, marmot and other animals. On the way to National Park, we will stop at small sand dunes called ElsenTasarkhai.

You will stay in nomadic family ger and visit host family. Host family wife can show you felt making too.

Day 8 Back to Ulaanbaatar
